For those of you who could not attend the CAMPROSA annual conference this year you missed a very successful event. We had two Speakers who could not make the conference at the last moment. Cliff Coetzee had a family crisis and had to withdraw but we were very fortunate to get Col Siva- Section Commander- Major Events, Division Operational Response Services to speak to us on the Events Bill which has had many Institutions grappling with is new Law. Helmoed Heitman our after dinner speaker also had to decline due to him being summoned to Parliament to present his Review on the Defense Bill. In his place we had the President of IACLEA – Anne Glavin who gave a very comprehensive review of security issues on campuses in the United States.
Amongst the Speakers we had the Vice Chancellor of NWU speak to us on the “Where are we and what does the future hold for S.A. Universities” This was the first time a V.C. has spoken at our conference and hopefully won’t be the last. His presentation was very thought provoking and raised many concerns about education in our country.
We were indeed fortunate to have such wonderful Sponsors who in many cases also exhibited at the conference. Their support at these conferences is extremely important and valuable in making this annual event a success.
The AGM was poorly attended in that there was no quorum however, those present voted to continue with the meeting. One issue that was raised once again was the matter of the topics on the conference program. Some felt that more issues related to their immediate problems on campus should be on the program. The Secretary reminded them that this was discussed in depth at the last conference on the “Sinfonia” and it was agreed that such matters were to be raised at the “Cluster’ meetings and Conference topics should be professional presentations of general interest to all members bearing in mind that our Associate Members are Service Providers.
The Secretary requested once again that members should put forward suggested topics and if possible Speakers to the Executive for consideration in the coming months before work on the program commences early in 2013. Furthermore, please support the Chairs of your Cluster and attend the meetings in your region and give input in order to make the Workshops worthwhile.
Finally, an Evaluation form will be sent to you shortly and we ask that you complete it and return it to Shanaaz as directed. The Executive will consider these responses to determine the direction CAMPROSA’s conferences should be taking in the future.
On reflection it was a very successful conference with two new Institutions and Services Providers attending and all three evening functions were well supported and enjoyed.
Thank you for your support and friendship.
